WormRoyale.io takes the familiar worm arena and runs it as a battle royale: the field thins out as players are eliminated, and the last worm moving takes the round. Growth still comes from eating, but survival is what the scoring actually rewards.

Controls are mouse only, which makes it one of the easier io games to pick up on a school laptop — there is nothing to configure and no keyboard layout to learn.

How to play

Steer with the mouse and click to boost. Boosting costs length, so use it to cut a rival off rather than to travel. Crossing another worm ends your run, so give crowded areas a wide berth until the field thins.

It is a battle royale first. WormRoyale.io is described by its developer simply as a battle royale game with worms, and that framing is the key to playing it well. Growing is useful, but staying alive is the goal. A small worm that survives outlasts a big one that took a risky fight.

Two inputs. You steer with the mouse and click to boost. Everything else is positioning. Because the worm follows your pointer, large, sudden cursor movements produce sharp turns — useful for escaping, dangerous in a crowd where a sharp turn can put your head across someone else's body.

Boosting well. Boost is the only way to change the pace of a fight. Use it in short bursts to get your head in front of a rival's path, then let them run into your body. Holding boost to travel across the map rarely pays: you arrive at the next fight with nothing left to use.

Early, middle, late. In the opening minute the map is crowded and most eliminations are accidents. Stay near the edge of the action and eat what is safe. In the middle, look for worms that are distracted by each other. Late in a round there are few players left, and patience wins — circling and waiting for a mistake is stronger than chasing.

Common mistakes. Following directly behind a rival is the classic one; you can never catch a worm by chasing its tail. Another is turning back toward a fight you just escaped to collect the remains. Let someone else go first and take what is left once the area clears.
