Soccer Random is a one-key soccer match: Player 1 plays with W, Player 2 with the Up arrow, and that single key is all either side gets. The aim, in the developer's words, is to score five goals and win the game while the conditions keep changing around you — the balls, the players and the goal posts can all change between goals, and some rounds put you on an iced field or on a beach.

You can play it against the CPU or against a friend in two-player mode on the same keyboard, and on phones and tablets it runs with touch controls. Because the match is first to five and every reset can bring a different ball, team or goal, no lead is ever completely safe.

How to play

Player 1 presses W and Player 2 presses the Up arrow; the one key is your whole control. Time each press so your players meet the ball and push it toward the opponent's goal. The first side to score five goals wins the match, even as the ball, players and goal posts change. Soccer Random strategy guide

One key has to do everything, so the timing of each press is the skill. Soccer Random gives Player 1 the W key and Player 2 the Up arrow, and there is nothing else to press. That makes the game about when you press, not what you press. A press made as the ball arrives turns into contact; a press made too early leaves your players coming back down as the ball goes past. Treat every press as a decision rather than a reflex, and you will already be ahead of an opponent who holds the key down.

The target is five goals, and it does not change. The developer is specific: score five goals and win, even while the balls, players or goal posts change. That fixed finish line is useful. If you go 3–0 up, you only need two more, so you can afford to play safely and let your opponent take the risks. If you are behind, you know exactly how many chances you need to convert and can push harder.

Read each reset before you press. Between goals the game can swap the ball, the players or the goal posts, and some rounds move the match onto an iced field or a beach. Nothing you learned about the last setup is guaranteed to hold for the next one. Take a moment at each kick-off to see what you are working with — a different ball or a different pair of players will not react the way the previous one did.

Solo first, then a friend. Playing against the CPU is the easiest way to learn how your one key moves your players without anyone exploiting your mistakes. Once the timing feels natural, the two-player mode on one keyboard is where the game shines, because a human opponent changes their timing and the CPU does not.

On a phone or tablet, use touch. The developer lists touch controls for mobile devices and tablets, so the same one-input idea carries over to a screen. The habits are identical: one clean tap per chance, and a quick look at the new conditions after every goal.
