Volley Lama is volleyball played by llamas, and its one mechanical idea is that the physics engine randomises the outcome of every hit. The same swing at the same ball does not produce the same result twice, so rallies stay alive longer than they should and nobody gets to settle into a rhythm.

There are two ways to play it: chase the highest score you can manage alone, or put a friend on the other side of the net and let the randomness decide the argument. The solo score chase is the better introduction — you learn how far the physics can drift before you have someone to lose to.

How to play

Play alone for a high score or with a friend on the same device. Each llama is controlled with a single input: in one-player mode press Up Arrow or click; in two-player mode Player 1 uses W or the left side of the screen and Player 2 uses Up Arrow or the right side. Every hit is randomised by the physics engine, so watch where the ball goes before you press again.

Tips to win

• Wait for the ball to show its path before pressing — the random physics punishes a fixed rhythm.
• In solo mode, restart straight away after a miss while the timing is still fresh.
• In two-player mode on a touchscreen, stay on your own half of the screen so your touches do not overlap.

Solo mode is the place to learn how far the randomness can drift. Alone, the goal is simply the highest score you can manage, so every rally is practice with nothing at stake except your own record. Pay attention to the hits that surprise you, because those are the ones that will decide a match against a friend. When a run ends, restart straight away while the feel of the last rally is still fresh.

Two-player matches are usually decided by whoever panics less. Both llamas face the same random physics, so luck tends to even out over a match while composure does not. Avoid mashing your key when a ball comes back strangely; one well-timed press beats three rushed ones. On a phone or tablet, each player should keep to their own half of the screen so touches do not overlap.

Keep sessions short and play several rounds before declaring a winner. The game is a quick, wacky volleyball bout rather than a long campaign, which suits a spare few minutes. If one player keeps winning across several rounds, the random bounces are not the whole story.
