About Swordbattle.io

Swordbattle.io runs the standard .io growth loop through a melee weapon instead of a blob: you collect coins, and the more you carry the physically bigger and stronger your character becomes. Size is both your reward and your liability, since a large player is worth far more to whoever takes you down.

Combat is a swing rather than a click-to-shoot, so range and timing matter more than aim. You can also throw the sword, which turns a losing fight into a gamble — it is your best attack and it leaves you holding nothing.

How to play

Move with WASD or the arrow keys, point with the mouse, and click to swing your sword. Press C to throw it. Collect coins to grow larger and stronger, and spend your gains on upgrades. A mouse-only control mode is available in the settings if you prefer clicking to swing.

Swordbattle.io strategy guide

Two control modes, pick one before you fight. The default is keyboard plus mouse: WASD or the arrow keys to move, point with the mouse and click to swing, and C to throw the sword. In the settings you can switch to mouse mode, where you move and point with the mouse, click to swing and right-click to throw. Enter opens chat. Try both in a quiet corner of the map rather than mid-fight — they feel very different and neither is strictly better.

Coins are size, and size is power. The more coins you carry, the bigger and stronger your character becomes. This is the standard .io growth loop, but with a melee weapon it has an extra edge: a large player has real reach, not just more presence. It also has a target painted on it, because your coin pile is the reward for whoever takes you down.

Farm the edges before you touch the middle. The centre of the map is where everyone who is already big goes looking for a fight. Early on you have nothing to win there and everything to lose. Collect around the outside, spend your gains on upgrades, and only move inward once the size difference works in your favour.

Range beats aim. Because you swing rather than shoot, duels are decided by spacing and timing rather than accuracy. Stand just outside your opponent's reach, let them commit to a swing, and step in while their attack is still finishing. Against a bigger player this is the only thing that works at all, and against a smaller one it removes the risk entirely.

Throwing the sword is a gamble, not an opener. C sends your blade at an opponent, and it is your strongest single attack. It also leaves you unarmed in a game where everyone else is holding a sword. Throw only when the hit ends the fight — chasing a thrown sword across open ground while a third player watches is how good runs end.

Swordbattle.io FAQ

How do you get bigger in Swordbattle.io?

Collect coins. The more coins you carry, the bigger and more powerful your character gets, and you can spend gains on upgrades.

Should I throw my sword in Swordbattle.io?

Only when the hit will finish the fight. Throwing leaves you unarmed, which is extremely dangerous with other players nearby.

How do you throw your sword in Swordbattle.io's mouse mode?

Right-click. Mouse mode, which you enable in settings, uses left click to swing, right click to throw, and mouse movement to move and aim; in the default mode C throws.

Can you play Swordbattle.io with friends?

Yes. The developer describes it as a multiplayer game where you can fight with friends, and pressing Enter opens chat with other players.
