About Sumo Smash!
Sumo Smash! runs on the oldest idea in the .io genre — get bigger than everyone else, then use that size as a weapon — and gives it a sumo theme that fits the mechanic unusually well. You grow by eating sushi scattered around the arena, and a larger sumo pushes a smaller one much further on contact.
The ring is the whole map, so being forced out is how a run ends. Treasure chests hidden around the arena hold unlockable skins, which gives you a reason to venture toward the edges even when playing safe would be smarter — a tension the game is clearly designed around.
How to play
Move your sumo around the ring with WASD (QZSD on AZERTY keyboards, touch on mobile) and eat sushi to increase your size. When you are larger than an opponent, charge into them to push them out of the ring, and avoid being pushed out yourself. Open treasure chests found inside the arena to unlock new skins.
Controls
- WASD (or QZSD on AZERTY keyboards) — move your sumo
- Touch — move on mobile
- Contact with rivals pushes them; size decides the outcome
Tips to win
- Eat first, fight second. A minute of sushi makes every later collision a formality.
- Push rivals toward the nearest edge rather than across the ring — shorter distance, less time for them to recover.
- Leave a chest alone if it sits near the boundary and someone bigger is nearby; a skin is not worth the run.
Sumo Smash! strategy guide
Sumo Smash! is won by size, so your first job is eating sushi, not fighting. Sushi scattered around the arena grows your sumo, and a bigger sumo dominates contact. Picking fights while you are small only hands a rival an easy push. Spend the opening of a round collecting, and let other wrestlers bump into each other.
Movement is WASD on a standard keyboard, QZSD on an AZERTY keyboard, and touch on mobile. Steady, deliberate steering matters more than speed, because the arena is where every collision happens. Keep your sumo moving where you mean it to go rather than swinging back and forth. A clean line toward sushi is also a clean line away from trouble.
Push rivals toward the edge that is closest to them. The aim is to push opponents out of the ring, and a short shove toward a nearby boundary finishes the job faster than a long chase across the middle. Approach from the centre side so your push carries them outward. Never line up a push with your own back to the edge.
Treasure chests are a reward, not a requirement. Chests found inside the arena unlock unique skins, which is a good reason to explore. But a chest near the boundary with a bigger sumo close by is a trap, and a new skin is not worth losing your run. Grab chests when the area around them is clear, and come back later for the risky ones.
Check the size of every sumo near you before you commit to contact. Growth decides who pushes whom, so a rival who has eaten more than you is someone to avoid until you catch up. Keep eating while you circle away from them, then turn back once you are the bigger wrestler. That patience is what separates a long run from a quick exit.
