Kingdom of Pixels takes the MOBA structure — lanes, minions, gold, items, one objective at the end — and flattens it into a 2D side-on platformer. You choose a hero from the roster, last-hit minions for gold, buy items that change what your abilities do, and push toward the enemy crystal. Levelling from experience runs alongside the gold, exactly as it does in the genre's big games.

Compressing all that onto one plane makes it far quicker to learn than a top-down MOBA, because positioning is one dimension instead of two. It is easily the most strategic thing in this category, which is otherwise full of arenas you can join without thinking.

How to play

Move with A and D, jump with W and drop through platforms with S. Basic attack is J or a left click, and your two abilities are on K (or Ctrl) and L (or Alt). Kill minions for gold, spend it on items, and push a lane until the enemy crystal is exposed. Mouse support can be toggled on the right of the screen.

• K / Ctrl — first ability, L / Alt — second ability

Tips to win

• Last-hit minions rather than swinging constantly — gold comes from the killing blow.
• Buy your first item as soon as you can afford it; early power compounds through the match.
• Do not push past your own minions. Being ahead of them on one plane means there is nowhere to retreat.
