About Rocketcar Cup
Rocketcar Cup is car soccer flattened into two dimensions, which makes the aerial game far more approachable than the 3D version of the idea ever is. You drive a rocket-powered car, you boost, you jump, you flip, and you try to put the ball in the far goal in either one-on-one or team matches.
Because it is 2D, the aerial hits that normally take hours to learn are readable straight away — you can see the whole arc of the ball and your own car at the same time. That makes it one of the fastest games on this shelf to go from opening it to doing something that looks impressive.
How to play
On a keyboard the developer lists W A S D and the arrow keys for driving, Shift for Boost and Q for a Hard Hit; the listing does not split these between two players or name a jump key. On touch devices, drive with the virtual joystick, press the blue button to Boost and the yellow button for a Hard Hit. Use boosts, jumps and flips to reach the ball and score while defending your own goal.
Controls
- W A S D — drive
- Arrow keys — drive
- Shift — Boost
- Q — Hard Hit
- Touch — virtual joystick to drive, blue button for Boost, yellow button for Hard Hit
- The developer does not say which keys belong to which player, and lists no separate jump key
Tips to win
- Think about who is covering your goal before you commit everything to an attack.
- Read where the ball is heading and start moving early rather than chasing where it is now.
- Keep the Hard Hit for moments when you want a strong strike, such as clearing the ball from near your own goal.
Rocketcar Cup strategy guide
Car soccer in 2D. The developer describes Rocketcar Cup as a fast-paced 2D arcade soccer game where rocket-powered cars battle for victory. You boost, jump, flip and use aerial moves to score, in one-on-one or team matches. It carries both the 1 Player and 2 Player tags.
What the keys do. The developer's keyboard instructions list W A S D to drive, Shift for Boost, Q for a Hard Hit, and the arrow keys to drive. The listing does not say which of these belong to which player in a two-player match, and it does not name a separate jump key, so spend a minute in your first match finding out how your car gets off the ground. On touch devices there is a virtual joystick for driving, a blue button for Boost and a yellow button for the Hard Hit.
Use the air. Because the developer lists aerial moves alongside boosting, jumping and flipping, goals do not have to come along the ground. In a 2D game you can see the ball and your car on the same screen, which makes it easier to plan where to meet the ball in the air.
Attack and defend. The developer sums up the job as outplaying your opponents, defending your goal and becoming the ultimate champion. A side that pushes everyone forward leaves its goal open, so think about who is covering the back before you commit to an attack.
Choose your hit. The Hard Hit has its own key and its own button. Use it when you want a strong strike, for example to clear the ball away from your own goal, and rely on normal touches when you need control near the opponent's goal. As the developer puts it, skill, timing and strategy decide matches — easy to learn, challenging to master.
