About Africa Jeep Race

Africa Jeep Race puts two safari jeeps on twelve dusty routes and lets you race either the computer or the person sitting next to you. The second player is switched on from the vehicle selection menu, not from a separate mode, so a solo run turns into a head-to-head without restarting.

Coins earned from races unlock new jeeps, which gives the single-player side a reason to keep going between matches. Both players share one keyboard, which is the format that consistently does best with our audience.

How to play

Player 1 drives with W, A, S and D and triggers power-ups with T. Player 2 drives with the arrow keys and uses P for power-ups. Turn the second player on in the vehicle selection menu before the race starts, then spend your race coins on faster jeeps.

Tips to win

• Save power-ups for the straight sections; using one mid-corner mostly throws you off the route.
• The dust tracks reward a steady line — hard steering scrubs far more speed than it looks like it should.
• In two-player, buy the handling jeep rather than the fastest one. Control decides these races.

Twelve safari routes. Africa Jeep Race puts you on the dusty roads of Africa across 12 different racing routes. You can race against a friend or against the computer, and coins earned from races buy new Safari Jeeps.

Controls. Player 1 moves with W, A, S and D and uses T for power-ups. Player 2 moves with the arrow keys and uses P for power-ups. Both players share one keyboard.

Turning on Player 2. The second player is activated in the vehicle selection menu, not from a separate mode on the title screen. If your friend cannot move, go back to vehicle selection and switch Player 2 on before the race.

Power-ups. Each player has a key for power-ups, so the timing is in your hands. Using one on a straight usually gains more than using one in a bend, where extra speed can throw you off the route.

Choosing a jeep. Coins come from races, and gold buys new cars. When you have a choice, think about how you drive: a jeep that turns cleanly on dirt is often faster over a whole route than one with a higher top speed.

Learning the routes. With 12 routes, the first race on each is partly about learning where the tight turns are. Take the first attempt a little slower and you will be faster on the rematch.

Common mistakes. Oversteering on loose dirt, wasting power-ups at the start line, and both players pressing into the same keys — sit so that WASD and the arrow keys are clearly split.
