About Drunken Wrestle

Drunken Wrestle continues the Drunken series with the simplest possible win condition: do not let your head touch the ground, and get your opponent's head to touch it instead. One button each, two wobbling ragdolls, and a match that runs to five.

Each level changes the conditions underfoot, so the tactic that won the last round is rarely the one that wins the next. It sits next to Drunken Boxing on our Action shelf for the same reason — nothing to learn, everything to argue about.

How to play

Player 1 presses W, Player 2 presses the Up arrow — one button each, or tap the screen on a touch device. Your button drives your wrestler forward and upward; short taps keep you balanced while a committed press turns into a shove. First to a score of five takes the match.

Drunken Wrestle strategy guide

One key each, and the whole match is deciding when to press it. Player one uses W, player two uses the Up arrow, and on a touchscreen either side can simply tap. That single input drives your wrestler forward and upward at once, which means every press is both a step and a lunge. You cannot step without also committing weight, so a player who holds the key down is a player permanently off balance. Short, separated taps are how you stay upright.

Your head is the only thing that matters. The win condition is unambiguous: do not let your own head touch the ground, and put your opponent's head on it. Everything else — position, momentum, which of you is nominally winning the shoving match — is only useful insofar as it moves one of those two heads. Players lose here by chasing a spectacular throw and toppling themselves in the process.

Every level rewrites the rules, so read the stage first. The conditions change level by level: what you are standing on, what is above you, and where the drop is all shift. A lunge that was safe on flat ground is a self-inflicted loss next to an edge. Spend the opening second of each level looking at where the ground stops rather than at your opponent.

Let them commit first. Because a press moves you forward whether you like it or not, an attacking opponent is an opponent whose balance is already spent. Standing still costs you nothing and forces them to solve the problem. The reliable pattern is: hold position, let them lunge, then press once as they arrive and use their own momentum to put them down.

First to five, which is longer than it feels. A match runs to a score of five, so a two-point deficit is recoverable and a three-point lead is not safe. The players who lose from ahead are the ones who start taking bigger swings because the score says they can afford it. Play the fifth point exactly like the first.
