Cubic Tennis sets tennis in a blocky, cubic game world with low-poly graphics and keeps the matches deliberately short: you trade tennis ball exchanges, and the first to three wins takes it.

It is played entirely with the mouse, so it loads and plays immediately. If you want the same sport with an arcade twist instead of a straight match, Tennis Hero is the other end of the shelf.

Cubic Tennis is a short match, so every exchange counts. The game is a series of tennis ball exchanges, and the first player to reach three wins takes the match. With a target that low there is little room to warm up, and a careless opening exchange puts you a third of the way to defeat before you have settled.

Everything is done with the mouse. The game is played with the mouse alone, so keep your hand relaxed and your movements smooth. Jerky, oversized movements are the most common reason a return goes astray; small, controlled adjustments usually give a cleaner result. Play on a surface where the mouse glides easily if you can.

Get into position early. In any tennis game, the player who reaches the ball first has the most options. Watch where the ball is heading as soon as it leaves your opponent and move toward it straight away, so you are already set rather than stretching when it arrives.

Vary your returns to keep your opponent guessing. Sending the ball to the same place every time lets the other side settle into a rhythm. Mixing where your returns go forces them to move more, and more movement means more chances for them to make a mistake in an exchange.

Treat each loss as information. Because matches are first to three, you can play plenty of them in a short session. After each defeat, think about which exchanges you lost and why, whether you were late to the ball or too predictable, and adjust for the next match. Short matches make this kind of quick adjustment easy to test, and a single change is often enough to turn a close loss into a win.
