About Cyber City Driver

Cyber City Driver drops you into a neon future city with six timed routes to complete, unlocking a more powerful car at each new level. Ramps run up onto the roofs of buildings, and the roads loop around and between the towers rather than sitting flat on the ground.

Alongside the time trials there is a two-player mode for racing a friend on the same keyboard, and a free driving mode with no clock at all — useful for learning the city, finding the ramps, and working out which routes reward speed and which reward not falling off a building.

How to play

Player 1 drives with the arrow keys, uses N for nitro and B to look back. Player 2 drives with W, A, S and D, uses T for nitro and C to look back. R restarts the level. In the timed modes you need to finish each of the six routes before the clock runs out; finishing unlocks the next level and a faster car.

Tips to win

• Save nitro for straights. Used in a corner it mostly sends you over the edge.

• On the rooftop sections, lift off the accelerator before the ramp lip rather than after it.

Treat Free Driving as the tutorial. The six timed routes are tight enough that a single wrong turn usually ends the attempt, and the city is built vertically, so a wrong turn is easy to make. Spend a few minutes in Free Driving mode with no clock, follow each route once slowly, and note where the ramps are. Drivers who do this clear the middle levels on their first timed attempt; drivers who do not spend a dozen runs learning the same corners under pressure.

Nitro belongs on straights. N and T are enormous accelerators and almost useless in a corner — the extra speed overwhelms the grip and sends you off the road or off a roof entirely. The right pattern is to brake or lift into the turn, get the car pointed down the next straight, and only then use nitro. Held through a bend it will cost you more time than it ever saves.

Rooftop sections need less throttle, not more. The instinct on a ramp is to accelerate into it, which launches the car too high, too flat, and usually past the landing. Lift off before the lip so the car leaves the ramp with the nose slightly down and lands on its wheels. A clean landing you can drive away from beats a spectacular jump that ends in a restart every single time.

In two-player mode, the clock is not the opponent. Racing a friend changes the calculation: you no longer need a perfect time, only a better one. That makes consistency worth more than speed. Let an aggressive opponent use all their nitro in the first third and take the lead — if they are burning it in corners, you will collect the place back when they land on a roof they did not mean to visit.

Use look back deliberately. B and C are worth pressing on the long straights in two-player mode so you know whether you are defending a lead or chasing one, but never in a corner sequence. Losing sight of the road in this city is how you end up on a rooftop with no exit.
