About Checkers

Checkers — draughts, or dames, depending on where you learned it — needs no introduction and no tutorial. You advance your pieces toward the far side of the board, jump your opponent to remove their pieces, and crown anything that reaches the last row. Two players share one device, or you can play the computer.

It is here for a specific reason: it is completely silent, it works on any screen, and a game lasts exactly as long as you want it to. When you need something that plays fine with the sound off, this is the shelf it belongs on.

How to play

Click or tap a piece to select it, then click the square you want to move it to. Move your pieces toward your opponent's side of the board, and jump over their pieces to capture and remove them — jumping is how you make real progress, so look for the chains. Reach the far row and your piece is crowned.

• Mouse — click a piece, then click its destination
• Touch supported
• 2 players on one device, or vs computer

Tips to win

• Keep your back row intact early; it is the cheapest defence against an early crowning.
• Look for double and triple jumps before taking any single capture.
• Trade pieces when you are ahead in material — a simpler board favours whoever has more left.
